Drug Discovery
Drug discovery is the branch of medicine that deals with the process by which new drug molecules are discovered. Historically, the drugs were discovered serendipitously and without the knowledge of the biological target but once the active substance was discovered, the target was then identified.
Modern drug discovery, on the other hand, involves several systematic approaches, including the identification and validation of targets, lead identification and optimization, preclinical testing, and pre-clinical and clinical trials. The pharmaceutical industry heavily invests in modern drug discovery to discover and develop groundbreaking medications.
