Pharmaceutics is a branch of pharmacy that encompasses all the steps or procedures involved in converting a new chemical entity into an entirely safe and effective marketed drug. The branches of pharmaceutics include design, formulation, manufacturing, dispensing pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, physical pharmacy, and pharmaceutical jurisprudence.
The entire pharmaceutics process, from drug discovery to marketing, takes a minimum of ten years, with clinical trials alone taking six to seven years. This field is also called the science of dosage form design. It involves designing dosage forms for pure drugs to reach the target location within the body and produce the desired therapeutic effects.
