Pharmacokinetics is a branch of pharmaceutical science that studies the body’s reaction to administered substances throughout the drug’s total exposure to the body. Pharmacokinetics focuses on how the concentration of drugs changes over time, a process called kinetics.
Pharmacokinetic studies depend on processes determining the rate of change of drug concentration within the living system, including absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME). Understanding these kinetics is crucial to assessing the drug reactions, which are modeled using the pharmacokinetic model, called the PK model. PK model incorporates mathematical models that provide equations that describe how drug concentrations change over time.
