Pharmacotherapeutics are the biologically active compounds used to treat and manage the disease. The branch that deals with pharmacotherapeutics is termed pharmacotherapy. Pharmacotherapeutics or pharmacological agents are drug substances derived from plant extracts, synthetic compounds, endogenous molecules, and microbiological extracts.
Before these therapeutic agents are used or marketed, they undergo extensive pharmacological studies, including absorption, dissemination, metabolism, and elimination (ADME) studies, as well as toxicology testing; several advancements in drug discovery and development have led to increased research in the development of these pharmacotherapeutics.
